Japan in the Anglosphere​

Syllabus

This course focuses on the presentation of Japan in the Western media, with an emphasis on the British press. We examine the reporting of Japan by British media during the period 1900-1970s, with some 19th century background. The media studied will be newspapers, radio and film. There will be a variety of approaches: mass communication theory, notions of the public and private sphere and media history.
